as much as i like bela lugosi’s dracula,it’s one of my favorite movies of all time. i think chaney would’ve made a better dracula.why?because in all his"monster"roles chaney brought tragedy, humanity and pathos to those characters.his performances in those roles made the audience root for him, even though you knew he was the bad guy.i think of the great line from phantom of the opera after he’s found out to be the phantom and he says "yes, but only because the cruelty of man has made me so",now who can’t sympathize with that.ok,lugosi was charming and charismatic in the role, but his performance was pure evil, there was nothing to make us(the audience)feel sympathy for him.to me the best villains are the ones that we have some level of sympathy for.

Dracula: Greatest Horror Movie Villain?

If you count the original silent version of "Nosferatu" as a Dracula film (an international court ruled "Nosferatu" was an illegal adaption of Stoker’s play "Dracula," so I would count it as such), a good case could be made that Count Dracula is the oldest surviving cinematic icon still being featured in new movies representing the horror genre (a similiar case could be made for Frankenstein’s Monster). My question to whoever cares to respond is "Would you agree that Dracula is logically the best known and greatest horror movie villain?" If you don’t agree, I would like to know who you would name as the best known and greatest horror icon.

I don’t really care if you agree with me or not, but I would like to know why you feel as you do on the subject so answers stating the why as well as the what are more like to be picked as the best. Good spelling and grammar are appreciated but not required.
