who would've made a better dracula bela lugosi or lon chaney sr.?
as much as i like bela lugosi’s dracula,it’s one of my favorite movies of all time. i think chaney would’ve made a better dracula.why?because in all his"monster"roles chaney brought tragedy,humanity and pathos to those characters.his performances in those roles made the audience root for him,even though you knew he was the bad guy.i think of the great line from phantom of the opera after he’s found out to be the phantom and he says "yes,but only because the cruelty of man has made me so",now who can’t sympathize with that.ok,lugosi was charming and charismatic in the role,but his performance was pure evil,there was nothing to make us(the audience)feel sympathy for him.to me the best villains are the ones that we have some level of sympathy for.
